POINTS OF INTEREST
The museum of Spetses is housed in the mansion of Chatziyiannis with the impressive patio and pebbly courtyard. The exhibits portray the history of the island: from the exhibition of martial archeology on the ground floor, with findings from the world’s oldest shipwreck, the island of Dokos, to the finds from the excavations of the Early Helladic settlement of Saint Marina and rare ceramics from various parts of the world to beautifully painted wooden acorns.
Museum of Bouboulina
A guided tour of the national heroine’s home is worthy just because of the unique, Florentine-inspired furniture that create an impressive ensemble with the wood-carved ceiling of the main hall. The collection of weapons also magnetizes the visitors. The museum’s highlight is the Mongolian Sword, the gift of the Tsar of Russia Alexander A.
Moreover, Bouboulina’s personal objects are displayed for the audience, while in the mansion of Chatziyiannis – Menos her bones are kept. There you can also admire finds from the ancient Shipwreck of Iria, dating back to 1200 B.C.
Walking by bicycle or by carriage, Spetses is a real treat.
On the island you will have plenty of free time (almost 5 hours) for strolling and eating.
